Creating a General Kontrak
Exactly what it says on the box – for general use. Think books, sports equipment, tools, or your muscles for moving. You can even define the terms of personal consent. Anything you can think of, really.
- Speak to the person and flesh out the basic details
- Select “create a General Kontrak” in the app
- Select your contact and add them to the Kontrak
- Enter the agreed terms, and choose whether it’s rated
- Sign with a selfie and send!
Creating a Financial Kontrak
If you've made a General Kontrak you've got a leg up. One key difference: a contact can't request money unless you make them a trusted contact – so you won't get spammed by that one cousin who never pays it back.
How you pay or lend is up to you – cash, transfer, whatever floats your boat. We don’t handle in-app payments; we’re just here to help you keep track.

- Add your terms – amount, repayment frequency, and whether it’s rated

Creating a Access Kontrak
One of the biggest obstacles to enjoying the outdoors is getting permission to access someone’s land. Access Kontraks set clear terms around property access times, dates and locations – and let the owner change or cancel if circumstances shift.
- Agree on the address, usage and timeframe first
- In the app, select create an Access Kontrak
- Select your contact and add them
- Enter the terms, and whether it’s rated
- Sign with a selfie and send!
Creating a Promise Kontrak
The simplest of all our Kontraks – pretty much a digital IOU. A promise you’re making to someone, for just about anything (so long as it’s not illegal or morally shady).

- In the app, select create a Promise Kontrak
- Select your contact and add them
- Enter your terms, and whether it’s rated
- Sign with a selfie and send!
Example Kontraks
New and not sure how to structure things? Here are a few examples for inspiration. Rough guides only – so long as it isn't illegal, we're good with how you use them.
Item lend – Guitar
Description: John borrowing a Player II Telecaster for Battle of the Bands. Includes guitar, case and tuner.
Terms: Rehearsal and competition use only. Not to be used by anyone else. Returned in the same condition. Strings and picks replaced if lost or broken.
Consent – Date night
Description: Dinner and a movie.
Terms: Meet at the restaurant at 6PM. No peanuts (allergy). No talking politics. Movies at 8PM. Home by 11PM. Split costs evenly. No unwanted touching.
$1,200 vet bill
Description: Patricia borrowing for Fido’s surgery.
Terms: Direct deposit. Receipts to be given. Repaid over 6 months – one instalment of $200 per month. Instalment dates auto-populate.
$200 until payday
Description: General living expenses until next pay.
Terms: Cash loan. For living expenses only – no alcohol or drugs. Paid back in full the morning after next payday.
Camping access
Description: Patricia’s property access for camping and fishing. 23 Example Rd, NSW.
Terms: Max 3 guests. Keep noise down. Stay 100m from the house. Clean up and remove rubbish. No fires except in the BBQ area. Close gates after use.
Gift – 25 hours gardening
Description: For Granny Smith, in lieu of the lawn-bowls set I couldn’t afford this year.
Terms: Up to 5 hours per day. Not before 10am or after 4pm Saturday. Cannot be redeemed for cash – clearly I am broke.
How to complete a Kontrak
Once all terms are met and both parties are happy, tap “complete Kontrak”, sign with a selfie, and send it through. When your contact does the same, your Kontrak is complete. Everything in the app is consensual – there's no power imbalance. If all went to plan, Tally will be happy and your ratings go up a level.
What if terms aren't met?
If things go wrong, mark it as incomplete by hitting “Kontrak failed”. The rating of the person who didn't meet terms goes down a level. But before you hit that button, talk to your contact – you may just need to change the terms. Kontrak Social is all about building trust, so don't give up unless you must.
Someone did something bad?
If someone sends you something illegal through the app, don't put up with it – report it. We review the incident and, if serious, help you report them to local authorities.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for using the app for evil or illegal things. You can also block a user so they no longer appear in your feed – and unblock them later if things improve.
