Kontraks

Social contracting your way.

People make ‘social contracts’ every day. Most are simple agreements with little to no “terms”. What makes them important is the shared social bond between both parties.

Kontrak Social was conceived to add an extra level of safety and trust to these contracts and help people live life on their terms.

Once you have downloaded the app, completed the brief welcome journey, and set your basic profile, we recommend that you create a quick, fun Kontrak with a friend or family member so you can get the hang of it. You’ll soon discover just how easy it is to use. If you do need help just come back to this page, check out our FAQs, or jump on to our YouTube channel for a demo.

General Kontrak

Creating a General Kontrak

A General Kontrak is exactly what it says on the box, for general use. Think lending things like books, sports equipment, tools, or your muscles for moving. You can even define  the terms of personal consent with a partner. Anything you can think of really. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Speak to the person you are looking to make a Kontrak with and flesh out the basic details
  2. Select ‘create a General Kontrak’ in the app
  3. Select your contact and add them to the Kontrak
  4. Enter the agreed upon terms. You can even indicate if the Kontrak is rated or not to build your Tally Rating.
  5. Sign with a selfie and send!

If your contact has an existing account, and the app installed, it will send them a “pending” push notification.

All they need to do is tap on your Kontrak, review, amend if necessary, sign it with a selfie and you’re done!

All they need to do is tap on your Kontrak, review, amend (if necessary), sign it with a selfie, and you’re done!

Financial Kontrak

Creating a Financial Kontrak

If you’ve created a General Kontrak you’ll have a leg up here, but there are some key differences between the two.

Firstly, your contact can’t ask for money unless you make them a ‘trusted contact’. You don’t want to be spammed by that one friend/cousin/neighbour who’s always asking for cash (and never paying it back). To create a Financial Kontrak:

  1. Speak to the person you want to make the Kontrak with and get the basics
  2. In the app, select Financial Kontrak
  3. Add your contact
  4. Add your terms, including the amount and repayment frequency + whether it is a rated Kontrak or not
  5. Sign with a selfie and send!

Like a General Kontrak, you’ll be prompted to send details to your contact through your phone’s native messaging app, this is necessary for all new users as messages sent from our app must come from a trusted source. Again, if your contact has an existing account, and they’ve installed the app, we’ll send a “pending” push notification to give them a heads-up. Eazy peezy (choose your own ending to this rhyme).

Don’t forget, how you pay or lend is up to you. Cash/transfer or whatever floats your boat. We  don’t have in-app payments, we’re just here to help you keep track.

Access Kontrak

Creating an Access Kontrak

If you’re an avid outdoorsperson, one of the biggest obstacles to enjoying your hobby is gaining permission from a property owner to access their land. Access Kontraks can help by setting terms and conditions around property access times, dates, and locations.

If you’re the property owner, you want to be sure the person is using your property in a respectful and safe way. Open-ended permissions are troublesome, but an Access Kontrak gives you (the property owner) the ability to change or cancel the agreement if circumstances change.

How to:

  1. Speak to the person you are looking to make an Access Kontrak with first and come to mutually agreeable terms including the address, usage and timeframe.
  2. In the app, select create an Access Kontrak
  3. Select your contact and add them to the Kontrak
  4. Enter the terms including whether the Kontrak is rated or not
  5. Sign with a selfie and send!

As with the previous Kontrak types, you’ll be prompted to send details to your contact through your phone’s native messaging app (necessary for all new users, as you already know). If your contact has an existing account, and they’ve installed the app, we’ll send a “pending” push notification to give them a heads-up.

Favour Kontrak

Creating a Promise Kontrak

This is the simplest of all our Kontraks. It’s pretty much just a digital IOU (I Owe You – for anyone born after the 90s). A promise you’re making to someone that can be for pretty much anything (so long as it’s not illegal or morally shady). If you’ve read the last three you know the drill, but here it is anyway.

  1. Speak to the person you are looking to make a Kontrak with and flesh out the basics or just surprise them with it as a gift
  2. In the app, select create a Promise Kontrak
  3. Select your contact and add them to the Kontrak
  4. Enter your terms including whether the Kontrak is rated or not
  5. Sign with a selfie and send!

Again, you’ll then be prompted to send details to your contact through your phone’s native messaging app (necessary for all new users…which already know). If your contact has an existing account, and they’ve installed the app, we’ll send a “pending” push notification to give them a heads-up…whoa, déjà vu!

Show & Tell: Example Kontraks

If you’re new to Kontrak Social and not sure how to structure your agreements, we’ve whipped up a few examples for you to use as inspiration. These are rough guides only. So long as what you’re doing isn’t illegal, then we’re good with how you use Kontraks.

Remember to always speak to the person you’re dealing with and keep communications clear and open. Afterall, starting from a position of agreement and trust can only be a good thing, right?

How to complete a Kontrak

Once all terms have been met and both parties are happy, you simply tap “complete Kontrak”, sign with a selfie and send it through. Once your contact does the same your Kontrak is complete. Remember, everything within the app is consensual, there is no power imbalance. If everything went to plan, Tally will be happy, and your ratings will go up a level.

What if terms aren’t met and the Kontrak fails?

If things go wrong and the Kontrak fails, you need to mark it as incomplete by hitting “Kontrak failed”. Not only will Tally be less happy, but the rating of the person who didn’t meet terms will go down a level. Which is a bit of a downer (we’ll see ourselves out).

Before you hit that button, speak to your contact first to see if you need to change the terms. Kontrak Social is all about building trust and stronger relationships between people. So, don’t give up unless you must.

Remember that Kontrak Social is only here to help you set the terms on your social contracts. We don’t have any say on how people fulfil their obligations – that’s on you and your contact.

Tally found a bad guy

Someone just did something bad

If a someone has sent you something illegal through the app, don’t put up with it, report it. We can review the incident and if it is serious enough, we will help you report them to local authorities. We have a ZERO TOLERENCE POLICY when it comes to people using the app for evil or illegal things.

You can also block a user if you don’t want anything to do with them anymore and they won’t appear in your feed anymore. If things change for the better in the future, you can unblock them.

If you are thinking of using the app for evil or illegal things, think again. We will do whatever we can to make you regret your decision. This isn’t just a company policy, this is the way.
